Have you ever been in a situation where you were hosting or performing in an event and a few days later, you see cool photos on social media? That is cool. This is because a photographer decided to volunteer.

So, what would be the right thing to do to say thanks back? Easy, follow, share, like, and credit.

What are the best ways to Credit a free Photo?

If you are in a social media that allows sharing or reposting such as Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter, a re-share of the original post with a simple thanks message is more than enough.

This is a perfect example of how a credit post should be. The Shiners, a Cornwall, ON local band, reshared a post of a photo we did at a concert.

If the social platform doesn't support reposting or sharing, such as Instagram you could allow tags, like the post and share it on your story.

In this case, the Castles, another local band to Cornwall, ON, allowed to be tagged (first two images).

Why doing a Credit is a Good Thing?

It is all about exposure and networking. The photographer's followers will see you and your followers will see the name of the photographer.

Think about the future, if you do a public thanks that simple action shows gratitude (and followers will notice), not to mention that it motivates the photographer to do volunteering work again. They could just show up on your next appearance.

What other Things to do?

Followback! If you get a follow notification from a photographer, follow back. Not only it is polite, but everyone gets benefits from it. Some social media platforms will suggest your followers follow the photographer and vice-versa; after all, it is all about networking.

In More Than Photos we look forward to photographing events for free. If you are interested in having us as volunteers at an event, please read our article about the criteria we follow.
